  •      Are you tired of having to get out of your car and manually raise and lowering your garage door? Installing a garage door opener can be an affordable and painless process if you know what you need! Call A-1 Door Company at (804) 271-3035 to get a free estimate on installing a garage door opener to work with your existing garage door.

First, it is important to know the various styles and types of garage door motors so that you can choose the one that best fits your needs. There are 3 popular styles of residential garage door openers on the market today. They include chain drive, belt drive, and jackshaft openers.

  • Chain Drive operators use a chain attached to a metal trolley. These garage door openers are economical, durable, and dependable. The downside to chain drive operators is that they can tend to be a bit noisy.

  • Belt Drive operators have a similar design to chain drives, but are typically quieter during operation and they have fewer moving parts. However, belt drives are a little more expensive in upfront costs. The belt drive operators use a rubber belt to lower and raise the garage door. The rubber belt eliminates the need for any metal to metal contact.

  • JackShaft operators are the most expensive of the three common types of residential garage door openers. A benefit to jackshaft garage door openers is that they don't require nearly as much headroom as a belt or chain drive openers. There is no need for an operator arm that runs perpendicular to your garage door that takes up all that space.  The jackshaft openers mount on the wall beside your garage door.  It raises and lowers the door using pulleys and cables. Jackshaft openers are also very durable and quiet.

  •      The main benefit to installing a garage door opener is being able to remotely open and close your garage door. Chain drive, belt drive, and jack shaft operators all have the ability to link to wireless remotes for opening and closing the garage door. An additional garage door accessory you can add once you have a garage door opener is a wireless keypad on the outside of your garage door. This could come in handy if you ever need to get inside your garage and don't have your garage door remote. Another additional benefit for upgrading to a newer technology garage door opener is that they have the ability to link to your smart phone or devices. Once linked, you can operate your garage door from anywhere using your smart phone.  A-1 Door Company can supply or install all makes and models of garage door openers and garage door accessories. Please feel free to give us a call if you have any questions or would like a free, no-obligation estimate.
