Want to Add Value to Your Home? Upgrade the Garage Doors!

While many homeowners take on a garage door replacement or upgrade out of necessity (the previous door was broken, too old, etc.), it can also pay to do so as an investment in your property. As the largest moving piece of your home, garage doors play a substantial role in the value of your home. We’ve seen firsthand just how much new overhead doors can do for a property, so we wanted to share some insights as to how a garage door upgrade can be a great choice for you!

The success of a home improvement project is typically measure by the return on investment, or ROI. According to a 2020 Cost vs. Value report by Remodeling Magazine, the average national cost of a garage door replacement runs at about $3,695. The resale value comes out to $3,491, bringing the ROI to 94.5%. Garage door replacements nearly pay for themselves!

Below are a few of the key ways that new garage doors add value to your home:

  • Boosts Curb Appeal
Call it superficial, but the overall look and feel of your home’s exterior is very important to its value. Older designs or weathered doors can be an eyesore for possible buyers. Upgrading your doors to the latest style is a great way to revitalize the curb appeal of your home.
  • Strengthens Home Security
If you have an older door system, there’s a good chance that it’s not as secure as the new models on the market. From poor openers to weak locks, older overhead doors can even put your home’s safety at risk. As the largest doors in your home, it’s important for your garage doors to be equipped with modern security features.
  • Improves Energy Efficiency
One of the strengths of newer garage doors is that they are crafted with the highest quality materials and come with a layer of insulation. This makes them more energy-efficient than their predecessors, as they prevent outside air transference and limit outdoor temperature from seeping in. In addition to adding value to your home, new garage doors can help lower your utility bills!

Components of Your Garage Door Explained

Here at A1 Door Company, we want our
clients to understand the anatomy of their garage door – so, we’ve written a
blog post for you about it! While looking for a new garage door, or a garage
door repair, chances are you’ll hear various technical terms thrown around
without truly knowing what they mean. Garage doors can get complicated pretty
quickly; so before getting stressed, continue reading for a breakdown of the standard
components of your garage door
.

Sections:
These are the panels that are secure with stiles connected with hinges and
rollers. You can replace sections without having to replace an entire door.

Bottom Brackets (or bottom fixtures): The bottom brackets are attached to the lower
corners of your garage door. They serve as structured supports that provide for
attachments of lifting cables.

Torsion Springs: Torsion springs are usually centered above
the garage door. When your door closes, cables attached to the bottom corners force
the springs to wind up, thus stimulating the system. When your door closes, the
springs then unwind and their energy transfers to the door, making it easier to
open.

Extension Springs: Extension springs counterbalance the weight
of garage doors to make them easy to open and close. They extend along both
horizontal tracks and help to open and close your garage door.

Cable Drums:  These are the grooved drums on the torsion
spring shaft that helps the garage door remain balanced as it opens and closes.

Tracks:
The garage door tracks guide the door to open and close. They are located on
both sides of the door and are referred to as the horizontal or vertical
tracks.
